Ich habe ja immer gedacht, ich komme immer mit dem ‘preview.app’ aus. Doch heute bin ich an die Grenze gestoßen. Ich musste aus einer PDF Datei, die eingescannte DinA4 Seiten enthält einige Seiten exportieren. Preview auf -> Drucken -> Seiten von X bis Y und als PDF ausgegeben. Nichts einfacher als das –dachte ich. Das Ergebnis war nämlich miserabel! Durch die erneute Erzeugung des PDFs hat die Qualität des ohnehin schon schlechten Dokuments erheblich gelitten, so dass es kaum noch lesbar war!

An dieser Stelle kommt PDFLab ins Spiel. Dieses Tool kann Seiten aus PDFs extrahieren, neu anordnen, neue Seiten hinzufügen, leere Seiten und Bilder hinzufügen und mehrere Dokumente zu einem zusammenführen. Und das Ganze ohne Neugenerierung. Und es ist Donation-Ware.

wie hindert man Preview daran, Dokumente in 280% Zoom zu öffnen, nachdem sie über Spotlight aufgerufen wurden?

First, quit Preview if it is running and open up Terminal from the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Type the following line and press return:


defaults write com.apple.Preview Preview -dict-add PVPDFSpotlightSelectionSize 10





The 10 at the end corresponds to a 100% zoom level. By default, this number is set to 28, or 280% zoom. If you want some zoom, but not quite as much, try a number like 15 for 150% zoom.

Es gibt doch widgets, die zu was nützlich sind. Ich habe im letzten Beitrag Dial-A-Font erwähnt. Jetzt gibt es für mich eine Alternative. FontSee ist ein Widget, dass installierte Schriften mit Hilfe eines Preview Fensters — in das man eine beliebige Zeichenkette eingeben kann — darstellen kann. Sehr nützlich.

Some Widgets seems to bee really helpfull, although I was sceptic before. In the last Post I mentioned the Soft Dial-A-Font, which gives you a preview of your Fonts. Nice Tool, but widgets are faster! FontSee is a Widget and makes a preview of your fonts just few clicks away! Same as Dial-A-Font, FontSee gives you a pane, where you are able to type your own text for preview! Very nice tool!

Lange gesucht und nun per Zufall gefunden! Wenn man z.B. ein riesiges Archiv mit Bildern hat, möchte man es nicht unbedingt komplett entpacken, wenn man nur an ein oder zwei Bilder möchte. Die Folgerung ist, man archiviert die erst gar nicht. Die Lösung ist aber nicht optimal.

Zipeg bietet die Möglichkeit in das Archiv vorher reinzuschauen, und dann festzulegen, welche Dateien entpackt werden sollen! Wie beim WinZip / WinRAR unter Windows.

Unterstützte Dateiformate: ZIP, RAR, ARJ, LHA/LZH, 7z, TAR, GZ, TGZ, BZIP2, CPIO, RPM, ISO, CHM, Z

Damit ersetzt Zipeg mir alle anderen Archiver und Unpacker!

PDF Dokumente lassen sich auf dem Mac ganz einfach mit Bormitteln von Apple OSX verkleinern. So geht’s:

PDF verkleinern auf dem Mac

• PDF Datei mit “Vorschau” öffnen
• dann “Sichern unter” wählen und
• unter “Quartz-Filter” den Punkt “Reduce File Size” wählen.

Diese Funktion verkleinert die PDF Dateigröße dann wirklich radikal. Aber es ist ideal, wenn man jemandem das PDF zur Ansicht schicken möchte, damit der jenige nur eine grobe Idee vom Layout oder so bekommt. Für einen Druck auf DinA4 reicht es aber alle Mal!

Eine Verkleinerung von 75MB auf 540kB ist dabei durchaus möglich (Wenn viele Bilder vorhanden sind).

Die Komprimierungsrate des Quarzt Filters lässt sich zudem manuell einstellen. Hier ist eine Anleitung

To be fair, I’ll have a second try on uApp. I tried to deinstall iBackup again.

As you can see, uApp do remove the same files as AppZapper or AppDelete

Seems to be difficult to defend my experiences that AppDelete and uApp don’t work properly. I’ll trie them three next time I’ll delete an App, so I’ll see if they works fine, always!

uApp don’t offer a backup of the deleted files! They are not in the trashbin after deletion. AppDelete and AppZapper do delete to trashbin. So if you are deleting an App with uApp, you don’t have a possibility to recover the deleted files!

Reggie Ashworth, the developer of AppDelete, has posted a comment at my Appzapper, uApp and AppDelete review

So I tried AppDelete again in compare to the files AppZapper would delete. As I could see, Appdelete worked fine! But see yourself:

Appdelete created a backup of the deleted files in your trashbin. As I could see, the files are the same as AppZapper would do. The files in Terminal I have seen, were deleted properly.

The undo you are able to press after uninstalling that AppDelete offers is great!

Conclusion:

I don’t know why i had a different impression before, but AppDelete does it great, now! Maybe I have used an older Version?

Installation was easy. The installer does it work fine. Install, dragndrop the app to your desktop or dock and finally drop the App you’ll to delete on it. Thats all.

I have payed for AppZapper, so I’ll use it in future, furthermore. But all you are searching for an alternative, AppDelete’ll be your choice!

Still nice to have

• A list, where I am able to see what files’ll be deleted
• Possibility to checkout the files I not want to delete (something like AppZapper)
• Maybe just an dmg file, where i am able simple to drop the Appdelete to my desktop. (To me personaly, I dont like installers on osx since it is possible to do not use)
