Ich hatte es schön öfters gesehen, aber nie die passende Einstellung dazu gefunden – das Mail Icon springt bei neu eingehenden Mails, wie bei jedem anderen osx app.

Eigentlich hätte ich bei Apple hier ein wenig mehr Erwartungskonformität erwartet und die Option in den Einstellungen vermutet. Diese liegt jedoch bei den Regeln – huh, nur durch ausprobieren zu finden?!

Um nun die Animation einzustellen, bewege Dich zu Mail>Einstellungen>Regeln und füge eine neue Regel mit “Regel hinzufügen” hinzu. Hier wählst Du im Filter “Alle E-Mails” aus und sagst Du möchtest bei “Folgende Aktionen durchführen” das “Symbol im Dock animieren”.

Von nun an Springt das Mail Icon jedes Mal wenn eine neue Email eintrudelt und Du verpasst nichts dringendes mehr.

Der EMTEC MovieCube Q800 könnte eine echte und deutlich günstigere Alternative zum Mac Mini + TVMax sein. Bei Ebay habe ich sie schon mit 1TB HDD für 199€ weggehen sehen.

Der Movie Cube Q800 besitzt einen DVB-T- und Analog-TV-Tuner und ist mit HDMI, digital-audio-out und HD-tauglichen DivX Formaten anscheinend »voll« HD tauglich — allerdings nicht in der Aufnahme, da nur ein analoger Tuner verbaut ist und per DVB-T nicht in HD ausgestrahlt wird.

Allerdings liegen die Vorteile der Mac+TVMax Kombination klar auf der Hand. Der Mac Mini kann natürlich für wesentlich mehr Aufgaben benutzt werden als nur TV Knecht zu spielen. Die Programmierung des TVMax kann mit Hilfe eines tvtv-Accounts bequem übers Web erfolgen.

• Further, for managing a delicious account, cocoalicious is the best (free) way to do. Cocoalicious is a del.icio.us client for Mac OS X. It acts as a desktop interface to your del.icio.us bookmarks. You are able to delete, edit and !! index !! all your posts by spotlight.

• Than, if you are interested if all your old links are still reachable, you may use dead.licious. dead.licious is a tool for verifying that all of your bookmarks in your del.icio.us, ma.gnolia, or Simpy accounts are still valid and gives you the option of removing or fixing those dead links.

• For browsing your delicious bookmarks delish ($9) may help you. All of your links, tags, and bundles from delicious.com are previewed with high – resolution thumbnails of the pages. It helps you to search links, and tags quickly. It keeps searches as smart bundles, if you want, too.

i have tried several times for linking directories in mac osx with ln -s — without success.

i have always done only one thing wrong — i have added a slash behind the target dir. ln wants to add a new file instead of a directory — while linking! The new file appears as a linked dir (alias)!

how NOT to:

ln -s /Volumes/source/ /Users/user/Movies/target/

how to:

ln -s /Volumes/source/ /Users/user/Movies/target

What is that for?

If you are using FrontRow for example, it is not able to read movies from an external (USB) Drive. So you have to mount / link it to the movies dir in your home.

If you are using dropbox for backup your files, you have not to move all your files into the dropbox dir.

Dabei kann man auch den Dateityp der Screens ändern:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg

Damit die Änderung wirksam wird musst Du Dich einmal ab und wieder anmelden!

Alternativ kann man in einer ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screencapture.plist Datei diese Optionen ebenfalls festlegen und zudem noch den Namen der Dateien verändern (Die Datei muss neu angelegt werden). Hier eine Beispieldatei: com.apple.screencapture.plist (zip)

First of all, if your mac is using DHCP, make sure your Router won’t drop the DHCP Lease while the remoted mac is sleeping — otherwise do the IP settings manually on your remoted mac. Your Router has to support DD-WRT Firmware (how to manage), otherwise there ‘ll not be send a broadcast WOL message and your target ‘ll not wake up.

lets go:

1. you ‘ll need the MAC Adress of your remoted mac — note it
2. open UDP 9 Port on your NAT (for all IPs you want to wakeup)
3. make sure, your router DNS is always reacheable from the internet — you may use dynDNS or other services
4. on the remoted mac go to system preferences -> “energy saver” and click on the “options” tab, make sure “wake for ethernet network administrator access” is selected.
5. download WakeOnLan (the only tool has made it for me)
6. add a new host manually (your dynamic IP adress an noted MAC Adress of your remoted mac
7. try to wake em up!
