How to wake up a mac (behind a NAT)
First of all, if your mac is using DHCP, make sure your Router won’t drop the DHCP Lease while the remoted mac is sleeping — otherwise do the IP settings manually on your remoted mac. Your Router has to support DD-WRT Firmware (how to manage), otherwise there ‘ll not be send a broadcast WOL message and your target ‘ll not wake up.
lets go:
- you ‘ll need the MAC Adress of your remoted mac — note it
- open UDP 9 Port on your NAT (for all IPs you want to wakeup)
- make sure, your router DNS is always reacheable from the internet — you may use dynDNS or other services
- on the remoted mac go to system preferences -> “energy saver” and click on the “options” tab, make sure “wake for ethernet network administrator access” is selected.
- download WakeOnLan (the only tool has made it for me)
- add a new host manually (your dynamic IP adress an noted MAC Adress of your remoted mac
- try to wake em up!
